KAILOMA –
TRIBE OF THE FUTURE
You are invited to join Kailoma, tribe of the future!
Kailoma is Fijian and means ‘from inside or In the middle. Being Kailoma used to mean being mixed race, a person with indigenous Fijian and European heritage. More recently, those with other Pasifika, Asian and African heritage have been included.
Having more than one tribe used to be considered less than, not black enough or not white enough to belong to either tribe. Mixed race people of colour are now the fastest growing demographic in the Western world and in the Pacific. Having two or more tribes can be a superpower, being able to walk between communities and cultures. Kailoma values all diversity and inclusion.
For us, Kailoma means the best of All worlds. We promote more than good quality clothing and fitness programs. Kailoma is the ‘Tribe of the Future,’ where everyone is invited and has a place they belong.
Welcome to Kailoma. We are here for you.
Our products and designs are Kailoma created, inspired, by our shared cultures, community life and beliefs. 10% of our profits are shared with vulnerable Oceania communities in Timor Leste and Fiji.
About john Goulding
John Goulding is a father of four and grandfather of three. A Pacific Islander from Fiji, he has a rich blend of British, Melanesian, Polynesian, African and Indigenous American ancestry as well, a true Kailoma!
John comes from humble beginnings in the quiet town of Savusavu in Fiji. At high school, he was a sprinter, rugby player and national javelin thrower. He later competed and coached the national team in bodybuilding competitions across Oceania and won national and international titles including a South Pacific Games gold medal in 1995.
John first became a gym instructor and personal trainer when he was 19 years old and spent years helping people get fit. Now, at 58 years of age, he remains committed to helping others improve their health, fitness and wellbeing, admitting, 'I now need to focus on maintaining my health and wellbeing if I want to enjoy good health into my 60’s, 70’s and hopefully 80’s.'
And so the idea of Kailoma sparked. The plan?
Step 1 : Form a tribe where everyone belongs
Step 2 : Provide practical nutrition, wellbeing and fitness advice which harnesses the wisdom of traditional Pacific Islanders
Step 3 : Design a brand of clothing which is practical, affordable and comfortable with a positive message of diversity, inclusion and belonging
Step 4 : January, 2023 - Launch the Brand, Kailoma, Tribe of the Future!
John now lives a simple life with his wife and children in Australia and travels to Fiji, his happy place, where he can fish, share a bowl of kava and connect with family and friends.
